Side trip to IBAMA

IBAMA Maceio

On February 14th we visited IBAMA's installation in Maceio. Among other things they have a wild animal rehabilitation center and a forest reserve of about 50 Ha. The rehabilitation center “Centro de Triagem de Animais Silvestres – CETAS” was funded by a grant from Petrobras – the Brazilian oil company – and has been implemented by OPA – a partner organization of ours in Maceio. They have quite a number of animals in the process of rehabilitation for eventual re-release into the wild – at least for those native to the area.

We took two walks through the reserve area, one in the late morning and then again at the end of the day. Since it was a very hot day, 33oC, there was not too much around on our first visit. In the late afternoon we were luckier, seeing quite a number of sloths and a tribe of monkeys, but still, not many birds.

New Web Site., We are building a more attractive and easier to use site. You are invited to check it out.
