Anhinga

Described by Linnaeus in 1766. (See: Birds in Brazil, H. Sick - pg 127 and Birds of North America, Alsop, 2002, pg 115) Easily distinguished from its near look-alike, the Neotropic Cormorant, the Anhinga has a sharply pointed bill, for spearing fish. The female has a light colored neck.
